How to Type in Hindi in MS Word (एमएस वर्ड में हिंदी टाइपिंग कैसे करें)

Mangal यूनिकोड फॉन्ट और फोनेटिक कीबोर्ड से वर्ड में टाइप करने की पूरी विधि

Learn how to type letters, legal documents, exam answers, and official reports in Hindi using Microsoft Word. Modern Windows versions support direct Unicode phonetic typing without requiring third-party software.

Always use Unicode (Mangal font) instead of Kruti Dev: Unicode documents can be emailed, opened on mobile phones, and converted to PDF without broken characters. Kruti Dev only displays on computers where the specific .ttf font file is manually installed.
१

Switch Windows Language to Hindi Phonetic (विंडोज में हिंदी फोनेटिक कीबोर्ड चुनें)

Open your Microsoft Word document. Press Windows Key + Spacebar on your physical keyboard to toggle the language bar to 'Hindi (India) - Hindi Phonetic'. You can also click the language badge (ENG/HIN) in the bottom-right Windows taskbar.

Pro Tip: If Hindi Phonetic isn't visible, install it via Windows Settings > Time & Language > Language > Add Hindi > Language Options > Add a keyboard > Hindi Phonetic.
२

Select Modern Unicode Hindi Fonts - Mangal (मंगल यूनिकोड फॉन्ट चुनें)

In MS Word's Font dropdown on the Home tab, select a standard Unicode font such as 'Mangal', 'Nirmala UI', 'Aparajita', or 'Kokila'. Avoid legacy ASCII fonts like Kruti Dev 010 or Devlys 010 unless explicitly demanded by a court clerk.

  • Mangal: Official Government of India standard font for clerical exams and official gazettes.
  • Nirmala UI: Modern Microsoft system font with excellent legibility on high-resolution screens.
  • Aparajita / Utsaah: Great for published reports, books, and formal letters.
३

Type Phonetically & Select Spellings (अंग्रेजी अक्षरों से हिंदी शब्द बनाएं)

Type naturally in Roman English: typing 'bharat' produces 'भारत' with a small candidate window floating next to your cursor. Press Space or Enter to insert the selected word into Word.

४

Configure Hindi Numerals - १, २, ३ (वर्ड में देवनागरी अंक सेट करें)

If you want Microsoft Word to display Devanagari numbers (१, २, ३) instead of English numbers (1, 2, 3), go to File > Options > Advanced > scroll down to 'Show document content' > change 'Numeral' dropdown from 'Arabic' to 'Context' or 'Hindi'.

Draft Your Hindi Content for Word

Type here and click “Copy Text” to paste directly into your Microsoft Word document with perfect Unicode formatting.

Frequently Asked Questions

This happens when non-Unicode legacy fonts (like Kruti Dev or Chanakya) are copied into a document lacking those font files on the computer. By typing in Unicode (Mangal / Nirmala UI) via FastHindiTyping.com, your text is universally encoded and will never corrupt or display as gibberish on other computers. (हमेशा यूनिकोड / मंगल फॉन्ट का इस्तेमाल करें जो कभी नहीं बिगड़ता।)

Yes! Many users find it easiest to draft paragraphs in our online typing tool, click 'Copy (कॉपी करें)', and paste (Ctrl+V) directly into Microsoft Word. The formatting and Devanagari characters paste cleanly without installing any software.

Save your Word document as a PDF (File > Save As > PDF) before printing or sharing. Since Unicode fonts like Mangal are embedded directly into the PDF, any print shop or cyber cafe can print it without requiring special font installations.
