Learn how to activate built-in Hindi phonetic typing on any Windows 10, Windows 11, or Apple MacBook laptop. Once enabled, you can type in Hindi across any desktop software, browser, or game with a single keyboard shortcut.
Press Windows Key + I on your keyboard to open Settings. Click on 'Time & Language' in the sidebar, then click on 'Language & Region' (or 'Language').
Click the 'Add a language' button. Search for 'Hindi' (हिन्दी) and click Next > Install. Once Hindi is installed, click the three dots (...) next to Hindi and select 'Language options'.
Whenever you need to type in Hindi anywhere on your laptop (Chrome, Word, Excel, Notepad, WhatsApp Web), press Windows Key + Spacebar. The language badge in your taskbar will toggle between ENG and HIN.
Click the Apple () menu in the top-left corner of your Mac screen and choose 'System Settings' (or 'System Preferences'). In the sidebar, select 'Keyboard'.
Under 'Text Input', click 'Edit...' next to Input Sources. Click the plus (+) button at the bottom of the list. Search for 'Hindi' in the left pane.
Press Control + Spacebar (or Fn / Globe key on newer Apple Silicon MacBooks) to cycle between your English and Hindi input sources. A flag or character indicator will appear in your top macOS menu bar.
