Frequently Asked Questions

InScript chart maps characters logically by phonetics (vowels on the left hand, consonants on the right hand), whereas the Remington chart mimics early 20th century mechanical typewriters where character keys were distributed mechanically without phonetic symmetry.

Most Central Government examinations (like SSC CHSL and SSC CGL) standardise on the InScript layout. However, some State High Courts (like Allahabad High Court and Rajasthan High Court) continue to accept Remington Gail or Kruti Dev. Check your specific exam notification.

In Unicode InScript typing, a half letter is produced by typing the full consonant followed by the halant sign (्, usually on the 'd' key). On phonetic keyboards, simply type the consonant without a following vowel before the next consonant (e.g., 'k' + 'y' = क्य).
